Out towards Manchester lies the Longdendale Trail. This is part of the Trans-Pennine trail and runs from Hull in the East to Liverpool in the West. It crosses the Pennine Way close to the car park on the map. At this part of the route the TPT is on the old Woodhead railway lines which are therefore relatively flat and easy walking. There are paths round all the reservoirs in the valley and this is worth a day trip if you enjoy walking. At the West end of the trail lie the villages Hadfield, Padfield and Glossop. Some may recognise scenery from the late 90s TV series "The League of Gentlemen" as it was used as the village of "Royston Vasey".
