An easy, quick place to experience the Louisiana swamp from a car. There's also a place to rent watercraft and find fishing supplies.

Beautiful Nature Preserve great for kayaking, fishing, photography or a leisurely stroll. Home to many species of water birds, gorgeous cypress trees and native plants (the floating American Lotus are my favorite). If you're into photography this is a must see! Swamp tours and kayak rentals available on Rookery Rd. Oh and yes there are alligators too.

A true swamp that changes with the seasons. Canoes, kayaks and fishing boats travel the waters as do a multitude of birds, alligators and other wildlife. I never get tired of going.

Lake Martin Lake Martin is the largest nesting area of wading birds in the United States. Each spring, from about mid February to May, hundreds of herons and egrets, Roseate Spoonbills and thousands of songbirds nest here. The big birds nest in an area right next to the road and it is absolutely spectacular to see! You’ll most possibly see plenty of alligators, big ones, too. Lake Martin is just a short 5 mile drive from Breaux Bridge. Directions: Head south on LA 31 in downtown Breaux Bridge, and after 3.5 miles, turn right on Lake Martin road. This is a real cypress lake nearby and very beautiful. You can go on swamp tours (I recommend Norbert Leblanc) or borrow my one seater kayak if you are brave.
