Capt. Zachary was very kind to be flexible to meet us and wait for us when I and an urgency come up. Very kind and knowledgeable host who is passionate about reestablishing, preserving, and sharing the land as it was more originally in southwest Florida.

It had rained pretty hard that morning and the day before, and it was cloudy so heat wasn't an issue for us. Fortunately, it only sprinkled on us while we were out there. With so much water, there was a good variety of wading birds feeding that morning. Got pretty far down the trails in spite of how wet it all was. Really enjoyed the experience!

If you're considering it, you might want to bring a long sleeved shirt, light pants, shoes (unless it's likely to be wet like it was for us), and some bug spray. (We didn't get many bugs due to the rain, but there were occasional biting flies that would almost certainly be worse on other days.)

If you're into learning about the history and ecology of a place you visit, you'll love this tour!

Zachary was a knowledgeable and thoughtful host. Before the tour even begun, he was extremely responsive to my messages and questions. He went above and beyond to provide support to us as out-of-towners. He also clearly demonstrated expertise in local flora and fauna, fielding questions skillfully and kindly. I'd recommend this experience to anyone interested in exploring this special landscape, but come well-prepared with heavy-duty sunscreen and insect repellent!

Despite the HOT trek with 3 kids under 9, Zachary was amazing and so patient! As a lifelong Floridian, I’ve never seen anything like a salt flat. He described the history, various foliage, animals, habitat, and answered any questions we had. It was a great break from the beaches and educational; we leaned so much. Bring lots of water, maybe wear shoes covering toes (gets muddy along the way), long sleeve pants and shirts, hat, and LOTS of bug spray. I wish I brought the kids a basket/bag bc they found lots of little crabs, shells, claws, etc. Thank you Zachary for amazing memories for our rambunctious family. Highly recommend. We were delighted with our tour of this beautiful and unique area! Zach was personable and knowledgeable. We learned a lot about the plants and wildlife in the area and their importance to the environment and their usefulness in the lives of Native people. We are from the Pacific Northwest, and this was definitely different than any nature walk we have been on. We highly recommend this experience!
