This experience was truly memorable. My friends in Cape Town had warned me not to go because they said the area was “sketchy,” but it actually felt very safe. The organizers greet you outside the community centre, and everyone Ubers together to the school, which made the whole experience easy and secure.

I had such an amazing time chatting with the students aged 13–18. They were focused and dedicated, and although many were shy at first, we had lovely conversations—especially with some of the girls, and we even exchanged IG accounts!

The staff and volunteers were all incredibly kind. I had genuine conversations with them and felt how passionate and knowledgeable they were. South Africa has its share of social challenges, and it’s not always easy to find true humility—but this experience showed me a beautiful, heartfelt side of the country.

We enjoyed the food prep with Mama, this was the absolute highlight, she’s so passionate!

Unfortunately the timings didn’t work out so we didn’t get to serve the meal and honestly we felt a little bit awkward interrupting the classes to say hi to the children while they’re trying to study. Very inspiring to see these intelligent kids and it’s a great programme to support.

This was a magical experience and such a good way to kick off our trip in Cape Town. We often get caught up in consumerism without, that it's rewarding and humbling to do an activity like this where you not only meet wonderful humans but you get to participate and give back via this program. It's super safe, zero times was there concern and a wonderful way to spend one afternoon of the many you'll have in South Africa.

I was the only visitor the day I went to Langa and was met by Zimbini who shared all the important ways that Just Grace is supporting young people in the community. We went over to the high school where I had the opportunity to connect with various classrooms of students getting a few hours of Saturday tutoring and a warm meal. I found the kids were happy to engage, share what they were working on, and ask/answer questions. We had some amazing conversations about the lasting impact of apartheid, current politics, pop culture, and just life. I absolutely loved my time with these bright young people and am grateful that Just Grace is committed to supporting them on so many levels. It was a truly meaningful and inspiring visit.
